The spirit of surfing lives on at Wavestorm. We’re dedicated to bringing high-quality, affordable surfboards to riders of all levels so they can experience the thrill of catching waves.
Our Story

Wavestorm was founded in 2004 by a group of Southern California surfers who wanted to share their lifelong passion for riding waves. They had seen expensive price tags limit people’s ability to take up surfing, a sport they believed should be accessible and fun for everyone.
Using their expertise gained from years of surfing, shaping, and building boards, the Wavestorm team set out to create high-performance surfboards at unbeatable prices. They knew the only way to lower costs without sacrificing quality was to make the boards out of soft foam instead of rigid fiberglass and resin. Foam surfboards allowed them to eliminate steps from the traditional shaping and glassing process while still maintaining excellent performance.
The first Wavestorm boards hit the beaches of California in 2005 and were an immediate success. Word spread quickly that these lightweight, user-friendly foam boards allowed people to get up on their very first wave. Their durability also meant new riders could hone their skills without damaging boards, which helped more people stick with surfing after those critical first sessions.
Seeing the excitement and demand for affordable, high-quality boards, Wavestorm ramped up production. They brought on new team members from diverse backgrounds united by the same passion for surfing and spreading the stoke. Their expanding operation allowed Wavestorm to become the top-selling surfboard company in America within its first years.
What We Offer
Today Wavestorm offers a full range of foam surfboards perfect for beginners and experienced surfers alike. Our flagship product is the 8-foot Classic surfboard, which features a lightweight EPS foam core and three marine-plywood stringers for performance that belies its playful shape. The board’s stability, float, and soft rails make it easy for newbies to stand up on their very first wave. More advanced surfers appreciate the Classic for its maneuverability and smooth glide.
We also offer a selection of shortboard models in 5’8″, 6’0″, and 6’6″ lengths. Shorter and more responsive than our longboards, these performance-driven shapes are ideal for intermediate surfers looking to advance their skills. Our foam construction brings responsiveness and lively performance to these compact outlines without sacrificing durability.
Hard-top surfboards have become a Wavestorm specialty over the years. These boards feature a high-density bottom shell that provides extra strength while maintaining a soft foam deck for traction and comfort. Hard-tops are perfect for surf schools, rental fleets, and high-traffic areas where boards take a beating. We currently offer hard-top versions of our 8-foot Classic and 7-foot Egg models.
No surf gear is complete without the essentials, so Wavestorm has leashes, fins, board bags, and roof racks to outfit your sessions. Our leashes feature comfortable neoprene cuffs and strong swivels designed for soft-top boards. We carry FCS and cupped fins to match the fin boxes on our surfboards, allowing you to customize speed, grip, and performance. Board bags and roof racks specially sized for our 8-foot boards protect your investment when heading to the beach or waves out of town.
Quality Construction
All Wavestorm boards start with top-quality materials chosen to deliver responsive performance with maximum durability. Our Classic boards feature EPS foam cores, which provide thermal insulation for a lighter board that’s highly resistant to dings and pressure dents. We lay three marine-plywood stringers tip-to-tail for improved strength and flex. A durable IXPE deck ensures excellent traction, even when wet.
For our hard-top models, Wavestorm uses a high-density EPS bottom shell laminated with an epoxy resin. This creates a rigid surface that can withstand abuse while the soft top eliminates bruising and pressure points when the board is ridden directly into sand or reef. Durable IXPE on the deck balances cushioning and traction.
Once shaped, all Wavestorm boards are wrapped in a waterproof polyethylene shell for protection from the elements and non-stop wave riding. This durable layer adds color while keeping the inner foam safe from waterlogging or damage. We hand laminate each shell for a snug fit that flexes naturally with the board.
Through continual refinement of materials and technique, Wavestorm has perfected the soft-top construction process to create boards that last season after season. Our rigorous quality checks and testing result in surfboards ready for anything the ocean dishes out.
Sustainable Production

In addition to making surfing accessible, Wavestorm aims to reduce environmental impact through sustainable practices. Our foam surfboard construction uses significantly fewer raw resources compared to traditional fiberglass board building. Producing foam boards also eliminates hazardous waste from resin and catalysts.
We’ve partnered with Armacell, an international leader in engineering foams, to source top-quality EPS made using recycled materials. The closed-cell foam is completely waterproof, meaning no chemicals leach from Wavestorm boards into the ocean. It’s also recyclable, allowing us to reuse scrap material in new cores.
Wavestorm boards are proudly shaped and assembled in our Los Angeles factory. This localized production reduces transportation emissions from importing while supporting American manufacturing jobs. We continue to streamline our processes to limit material waste and energy consumption.
Giving Back
The ability to share waves and good times is at the core of Wavestorm’s mission. We support several organizations that make the surfing lifestyle more accessible:
- Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation: Wavestorm sponsors this non-profit surf therapy organization providing ocean experiences for underserved youth. Their programs transform lives through mentorship, education, and healing in the water.
- Surfers Healing: We contribute surfboards and volunteers to this foundation’s free one-day surf camps for children with autism. Surfing provides physical benefits and creates joyful moments for participants.
- Groundswell Society: Donating surfboards helps this group empower women through surf retreats, clinics, and ocean therapy programs. They also advocate for representation and inclusion in the surf community.
- Board Rescue: Wavestorm recycles slightly damaged boards no longer suitable for sale. Board Rescue distributes them to programs providing surfing opportunities to veterans, foster kids, and others overcoming trauma.
Giving back improves lives in our community. It also shares the positve spirit of surfing that Wavestorm strives to foster with every board we make.
Growing the Sport
In addition to making gear, Wavestorm works to grow surfing at the grassroots level. We’re dedicated to sharing our knowledge and stoking passion for the sport we love.
Our website is home to a surf school blog with tips and tutorials for improving your wave riding. Get advice on reading surf reports, identifying bathymetric features, and mastering maneuvers from nose riding to cutbacks. We’ll help you progress safely from whitewash rider to fearlessly shredding outside peaks.
Inside knowledge and skills make surfing more accessible for new riders of all ages. To further bring up the next generation, Wavestorm regularly conducts free surf clinics for local groms. Under guidance from our experienced team riders, kids learn etiquette and get coaching to help them stand up on their boards quicker. Seeing them ride their first waves keeps us energized about the future.
Wavestorm also maintains a network of brand ambassadors up and down the California coast. From elite team riders to core enthusiasts, our ambassadors represent Wavestorm in their local lineups. They share feedback for improving our products while spreading their infectious passion for surfing.
Through camps, clinics, blog tips, and supporting ambassadors of all levels, Wavestorm keeps the cycle of stoke alive.
